"few mm of skin." I think "a few mm of bone", specifically mms vertically of the lower maxilla. The only way it could be an effect of skin was if the lips were misaligned, and if they were that would be a serious disorder noted by doctors. (Maybe it is, like hypoteleorism is noted.) Midface ratio is an essential proportion of the face. Gotta get that 1.1.

I think it can get even shorter if you tip your head upwards before taking the photo.

Not significantly.

If you put your finger above your upper incisors and to your gums, you'll feel this thing called a frenulum and it connects the upper lip to the gums of your mouth and provides stability. Doctors declare a frenulum that is short as a lip-tie, but I have never read about it being too long. The frenulum is tucked deeply into the central fossa of the lower maxilla.

However the mouth forms must be pretty robust and happen after the development of the gums and thus the skeleton (because gums are rooted into the jaws). So robust that severe abnormalities of vertical alignment of lips and teeth are unheard of.

In the angle of evolution, genes that cause trouble getting food into the alimentary tract or that limit intake of oxygen when chasing a gazelle or some shit aren't fit for survival and propagation.

The sad fact of human life I think is more than we realise about our looks is defined by our skeletons. Sad, that is if you are subhuman. I guess it stands to reason if you remember that without our skeleton, we would be a mushy pile of skin and organs. How much more important can the skeleton be in the formation of our appearance?

Wouldn't chalk this up to leanmaxxing unless you have a mirror selfie before/after

it's possible there was error then. not saying that's what happened but there can always be bias with how you're feeling when you measure

judging by how your upper lip is shaped in both pictures, and how i picture the angle to be, it's likely your philtrum was the same in both pictures, but the first picture was more distorted toward your philtrum appearing long.
