Most rulers in this day and age are 70+ year old kleptocrats who use modern weapons to keep people subservient.

But in Plato/Aristotle's time, most rulers were like Xerxes or Alexander the Great - young men with top genetics, and high intelligence, who also had physical acuity for war and strategic thinking. I.e. philosopher kings. Julius Caesar was 31 when he became emperor of the Roman Empire.

Aristototle himself was the personal mentor of Alexander the Great when he was growing up. And he was taught by Plato.

Tutankhamun I was just 19 when he died as Pharaoh of Egypt and already one of the most skilled generals in antiquity who had won multiple battles.

Would they be better rulers in a modern world? We don't know, because the accumulation of wealth to older generations has accelerated so much (and the importance of physical fitness dwindled so much) they can buy themselves seats in senates, congresses and parliaments through massive advertisement campaigns ordinary people can't afford.

We will probably never again have societies where the most genetically fit lead them, unless society completely runs out of gunpowder and modern weapons, and we resort to using muscle and steel again.

I disagree on the last bit. A slow resurgence of aesthetics is happening. The current elites are simply herd managers benefitting from technology - the moment a bunch of very rich chads organise their own aristocracy it's over for them.

But I do agree on your second point. It is funny and brutal how the feedback loop of being good looking/blessed by nature makes your personality turn out. The ancients knew that beauty/strength leads to virtue. Not reason --> virtue. "Good" is simply a byproduct of power and abundance. If the chads were allowed to rule, society would probably be better.

As food for though, imagine what would happen to the world if you gave the average forum user here power? It would probably turn into hell.

And jfl, Tut was a crippled lardass with gyno who liked incest. His advisors and generals probably won those battles.

Same way they cucked Carthage - manpower spam and learning from your mistakes. We also tend to forget that they were elites, and even if they were not blessed by good looks, they still had a completely different education and life (massive abundance and power) compared to the plebes. The ugly elite from those times enjoyed 100x the freedom and power of a current ugly elite.

Another factor is that Romans viewed Greek art like some of us view tiktok prettyboys: As flamboyant and feminine. The Romans tried to depict reality as it was, even at times exaggerating the opposite (more wrinkles = wiser) in pursuit of this goal.

Then we can go into the whole "energy of a people" debate but if I attempt to explain the concept again, I'm gonna rope.
