first post omg wow!
dnr bad grammar, currently fighting 2 ambien XRs.
so this mf if on tiktok of is claiming to have lightened his eyes from light brown straight to blue using ky19382. first off eye lightening in general is pretty much cope (going to briefly touch on this towards the end), and secondly, mechanistically, and looking at what ky19832 does its easy to figure out OP of said tiktok is a larping retard.
Ok so what is KY-19382?
Not gonna bore you with stupid blah blah, but in short it is a hair loss medication that works via a unique mechanism not really presented by other experimental medications like RU and known treatments such as minoxidil, bimatoprost (grows hair so im putting it here fuck you) and 5-ar inhibitors.
This isn't about RU or the other aforementioned compounds. If you're interested in that, read up on it on some other thread here or use your brain and hop on pubmed and read abstracts or some shit yall do to larp academia. I'm not a spoon (unless with her
), feed yourself your own info.
To put it as simple as possible, KY-19382 is a Wnt/β‐catenin signaling ACTIVATOR. This is important and mainly why the reported eye lightening effect is BS.
Because I'm too lazy to fully write out what this pathway does, I'm going to pull the excerpt from the study that explores this pathway further. For our purposes, this is the canonical pathway of Wnt as beta-catenin is being affected and thus nuclearly translocated when activated via the inhibition of CXXC5 interacting with Dvl by KY19382.
Now what does this canonical pathway do?
"The canonical Wnt pathway mainly controls cell proliferation...Wnt signalling plays an important role in the self-renewal of some tissues in mammals... In addition, the Wnt signalling pathway is closely related to liver metabolism and regeneration, lung tissue repair and metabolism, hair follicle renewal, haematopoietic system development, and osteoblast maturation and activity"
Now, I find the FINAL statement of this quote to also be interesting, as KY-19382 might be able to indirectly signal osteoblast activity. DYOR. idgaf abt this bc I don't find it as interesting.
So what abt melanogenisis? What about lightening the eyes.
"The cAMP/CREB- and Wnt-signaling pathways, PAX3, and SOX10 activate transcription of the melanocyte specific MITF-M isoform"
To understand this, we need to understand WHAT MITF-M is.
MITF, microphthalmia-associated transcription factor, is basically one of the core proteins that regulate genes relevant to a melanocyte's survival. (The M is just the melanocyte-specific notion as this is present in several types of cells).
And what is one of the main roles of a melanocyte's survival?
Idk Boss? Fucking making Melanin??? (Again, super oversimplification, don't lynch me)
Checks out:
"MITF turns on melanogenesis by activating transcription of pigment genes such as tyrosinase (TYR), tyrosinase-related protein 1 (TYRP1), dopachrome tautomerase (DCT), and PMEL"
To lighten eyes, you need to (super fucking simply) remove melanin from the iris.
TLDR:
Mfs on tiktok are retarded, KY-19382 doesn't lighten your eyes; it actually increases, mechanistically and downstream, melanogenesis. There is no obvious mechanism by which KY19382 should strip melanin from eyes and turn brown eyes blue. Unless this is a magical effect and we have to rewrite our mechanistic understanding of the compound.
Data and Mechanism >>>>>> All
Great for growing hair though!
But yes people with thousands of followers will comment "bump" or "high iq" on the original post.
