The hallway had emptied faster than usual, leaving only the echo of lockers slamming shut. I kept my head down and walked toward the restroom, hoping to avoid another confrontation.
The door swung open behind me.
“There he is.”
Three of them stepped inside. I didn’t answer. I knew better.
One shoved me into the sinks hard enough that my shoulder slammed against the counter. Another grabbed the strap of my backpack and yanked it off before tossing it into the corner.
“You think you’re too good to talk now?” one of them sneered.
I tried to push past, but someone caught me by the hoodie. My feet slipped on the wet tile.
Before I could get my balance, they forced me toward the last stall.
“No—wait.”
One hand pressed against the back of my neck.
The toilet lid was already up.
They shoved my head down into the freezing water.
For a second everything disappeared into muffled echoes and panic. My lungs burned as I thrashed, trying to pull free.
Then they let go.
I stumbled backward, coughing violently, water dripping from my face and clothes. Laughter filled the restroom as they walked out one by one, leaving the door swinging behind them.
Silence returned.
I stood there shaking, staring at my reflection in the mirror. My hair was soaked. My hoodie clung to me. Water pooled beneath my shoes.
The worst part wasn’t the water.
It was knowing that tomorrow, I’d have to walk those same hallways again.
