American cities have similar homicide rates to Sao Paulo like dallas, Washington DC Chicago, but that's only in the cities. The metro areas as a whole tend to be quite safe in american cities , especially in suburb areas.
But that is unfortunately changing. In california ever since the state government has made bail very low to none for crime like burglary under 1000$, bugarlies have gone up a lot. And in general the DA is not going that hard on criminals and opting for much lower sentences and non jail methods.
This has made criminals much bolder their, and they now target the rich white suburbs in california.

Everything said, I still want to live in Cali. The beaches and weather are epic and there's not any other places like it, besides Florida which seems to have incredible natural disasters like every 4 years that decimate large chunks of the state, so that's out of the question for me. Many of the things I have said about women, like them being self-centered, are also very applicable to most of the men here as well, it's not just an issue with 'women', it is the culture.
