This won't work if you have actual structural impediments like obstructive sleep apnea causing you to mouth breathe, get that shit fixed. Anyway, I don't mouth breathe during the day but I probably do during the night as I see saliva on my pillow often and my hyoid becomes way lower (inactivity of the muscles that raise it during the night, that is, mouth breathing).
I used xylometazoline (sold as Xylo-comod here) for three nights and there was no saliva on my pillow and I woke up with a flat submental and the hyoid was raised. I know this is because I mouth breathe only due to the excess mucus/blockages I have. You could try this for a few days/nights and see if you mouth breathe. My nose feels so clear after I use the nasal drops.
