braces & retainers focus on the alveolar process and not the sutures, which is what we are focused on. so in theory, it should not retain the maxillary projection if it only covers front teeth on ur mandible. if you are really short on time and have to wear retainers for longer than you have time left to thumb pull, then you can try it, but stop if you see any change in the appliance itself. also try not to give yourself an overbite (if you’re too old, the mandible does not advance with the maxilla anymore.)
