As everyone knows, Paul McCartney was killed in a traffic accident on November 9, 1966. Paul was unaware that a traffic light turned red at an intersection and he was killed by being crashed into a truck. Some people say that this is a myth, that what really happened is that he had a motorcycle accident on December 26, 1965, in which he broke his lip and a tooth. Who denies this? One accident does not remove the other.
What happened after his death? Brian Epstein, the Beatles' manager, announced that there would be no more concerts or live performances. The Beatles and their record company refused to go away. They had to find a replacement for Paul, and they did a "Paul Doubles" contest in Winter of '66.
This contest did not officially have a winner…. but he did have it: his name was William Campbell and he was Canadian, and from then on he was Paul's replacement in exchange for a considerable sum of money.
From that moment on, the Beatles left clues on all their subsequent albums, in memory of the late Paul McCartney, and so that fans gradually got used to the idea that Paul was dead.
