Being an ultra is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever been part of. People from Latin America, North Africa, and many European countries will probably understand what I mean. And for Americans who call football “soccer”… yeah, I still can’t get used to it.
How are people willing to risk their lives—or even end up in prison—just for supporting a football team? The players are millionaires, and most of them don’t even know you exist.
I used to be an ultra myself, but my perspective changed after my cousin killed someone during a fight over our team and went to prison. All of that over football.
I was reminded of it today when I saw my old group organizing a “meeting” where they bring flares, knives, sing chants, and call it a movement or a ritual. Looking back, it just feels pointless.
Now I don’t even enjoy football the way I used to. At the end of the day, it’s a game played by talented people who were fortunate enough to make it. Many others had talent too but never got the same opportunities. Yet some fans are willing to sacrifice everything for them.
To me, that’s just not worth it.
