during spanish and portuguese colonialism of the new world infant death was pretty common, and Reconquista had just ended, they didnt have the number of people needed to replace the natives, so they decided to mix with the ARISTROCRATS of the americas (important point here), but also gave "rights" to the natives (they were still inferior to the white man tho). They couldnt have done what you are saying even if they wanted to.
