adultery is a good example. many people cheat on their spouses because it isn't illegal

at the basis, sure

but there are many times that people could act "immoral" and benefit, even in an action that is not immediate revenge, but still wont do it because of "inner morals"

a "devout" christian (one who abides by every single moral from the bible) is one who is:
- stoning their wife on their wedding night if they find out she wasn't a virgin
- owning slaves
- beating their children everyday to prevent them from being spoiled
- instructing their wife to never speak in church
- only allowing their wife to ask them questions in the privacy of their own home
- disallowing women from being educators

ultimately theists AND atheists both get their morals from laws and common sense.

all those actions are prohibited under modern law, so they can't practice those beliefs

that's only immoral under a theistic world view.

a devout theist should be willing to do whatever his God deems just - no? why would he care about what happens on earth if he truly believes he will go to heaven no matter what?

there is a part of the bible which specifically states that you should give in to authorities because god set them up.

Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
