I’m writing this thread to tell people some of the symptoms I’ve experienced while on Isotret. I’ve been taking 20 mg the first month and 40 mg the last 2. I don’t have severe cystic acne just moderate to mild acne:
Dryness
Dryness becomes apparent pretty quickly after taking it expect to be putting on aquaphor on a few times a day. Especially the lips and use a facial moisturizer too. It doesn’t help that it’s cold out by I have gotten eczema patches on hands, forearms and neck. My eyes have also been very dry and watery.
Hair loss
The corners of my forehead have receded a little, although I’ve been told that this is normal and it will grow back when I get off the medication. I’ve been having heavy shedding of skin cells and hair about 6 hours after I take a shower which has been very annoying and my scalp has been itchier. I’ve done some things to counteract this though like using OTC shampoo and a scalp brush.
Loss of energy
I have had noticeable loss of energy. I’ve gotten tired more quickly and it’s been harder to be productive, part of this may be seasonal depression but I just thought it’d let people know that I’ve been feeling this since I’ve started taking it.
Is it worth it?
If you have bad hormonal acne and not just acne caused by bad diet, I’d say it’s definitely worth pushing through the side effects. It has an extremely high success rate and I’ve noticed noticeable improvement since getting on it although it was more noticeable after month 1 to month 2. The side effects are more so annoying than painful and something that’s worth pushing through especially if you have cystic acne. I think losing weight and getting rid of acne are the most important soft maxes you can do if you want to start.
