Ever since I submitted a complaint letter to the landlord about his constant noise, he has been unusually quiet, almost deadly silent, and burnt/vaporized some kind of chemicals that made me really sick. Based on the smell and symptoms it produced*, two chemicals come into question: dichloromethane and methyl bromide. The former is an organic solvent that's metabolized to carbon monoxide (an odorless breathing poison that leads to suffocation in high enough concentrations) and the latter is a pesticide that is metabolized to methanol (aka wood alcohol, which can cause blindness and metabolic acidosis) and then to formaldehyde and formic acid. I heard a carbon monoxide detector going off in his apartment and he left the house. It isn't unlikely that he has the equipment (also for his own safety) and harmful chemicals like solvents needed for his little biochemical warfare attempts, since he smokes crystal meth and probably also produces it or other drugs sometimes. These weren't the first incidents when he burnt/vaporized something in his apartment with closed window blinds.

I'm convinced that he's trying to get rid of me or seeks revenge for notifying the landlord about his behavior. He's never been that quiet since I moved in a year ago. What's even worse, there are families with young children living in the house who grow up in this toxic environment. The morning after the night when the whole stairwell smelled of smoke and these chemicals, I heard other neighbors including the children cough a lot and being out of breath. Babies were crying their eyes out. He's putting everyone in danger, not just me. All because he has a problem with me and my (more than justified) complaint.

* the symptoms were: drowsiness, almost fainting, lethargy, breathing difficulties, ringing in the ears, headache, dizziness, loss of vision, sore throat, slower movements, can't think straight, poor short term memory, overall intoxicated feeling

@DrunkenSailor hopefully this will make you feel a little better about your neighbor

@Rope2647 thoughts?

But now that you have so much data, why not informing your landlord and social services? Giving he puts all living there into danger.

I definitely will. Currently staying at a hostel. My vision is still not 100% but better than yesterday. Forcing myself to drink lots of alcohol to reduce the risk of permanent damage, in case it was actually methyl bromide (ethanol is an antitoxin for methanol poisoning)

Idk bro but at this point i would have beaten the shit outta him then moved away in a different city in case he’s a notorious drug dealer or something

I will but only once I'm out of there for good. I (and the other tenants) might not survive making another complaint about him. It'd be irresponsible. He is mentally ill

Had to go back home to do the laundry and get a few things. I was doing a little bit better but now I’m even more ill than the last time. It smelled of sulfur and nail polish and the lighting in the stairwell didn’t work. My neighbor was there, his room light was on and I heard him move his heating controllers but the blinds were closed. Saw and heard no other neighbors above the second floor. I really hope they’re all okay.

Almost went into a narcosis-like state on my way back, just like the last time; probably because of how these chemicals affect the central nervous system. Lungs feel messed up too.

Jesus christ

My neighbor had four weeks to prepare for my returning. I have to get some things from home but if he hears me, I might be screwed

Is it legal to booby trap your house where you live?

He never broke into my apartment, at least not that I'm aware of. His apartment is directly below mine though and I heard him drill the ceiling of his room before. I'm officially moving out this month, been staying at a hostel for half a year because of him

Oh. I was going to say invite him over and have some kind of "surprise" for him. I mean morally, I wouldn't see the wrong in booby trapping him. And if you were to do it, not saying that you should kill him, but not saying you shouldn't.

Jfl this is some schizo shit bruh

I'm moving out this month anyway so it isn't worth all the extra hassle and legal risks imo

Ok. best not to waste both of your guy's time then. but there will always be people like him in life that you may run into again. maybe consider the booby trap idea next. I can't do it because im in America and its illegal, but I am a strong supporter of booby traps.
