Is zygo asymmetry and maxilla asymmetry the same thing, and if not can asymmetrical zygos give the illusion of an asymmetrical maxilla?

No they are not. Asymmetrical zygos are easy to notice, one cheekbone being lower than the other, it may suggest maxilla recession though.
asymmetrical maxilla is hard to spot, usually just the palate having and uneven shape.

Maxilla is in charge of zygos, so if your maxilla isn't developed enough then you'll lack a bit of zygo but! Zygoma's volume doesn't have to do anything with the maxilla. You can diagnose most maxillary asymmetries by checking out your palate
