my little brother is going to get braces with rubber bands, for an overbite. My question is, does the rubber bands pull the lower jaw forward as the dentists say or do they pull back the maxilla?

well both actually. it's not like one part is anchored and the other is not.

Correct me if im wrong. I don't wear them personally

i have not had braces with rubber bands, but I've seen a lot of hate on braces here, saying it will recess you etc.

it can only recess you if you wear bands or get your teeth extracted (amputated most of the times)
Yes teeth extraction does recess you, it's a standard in ortho that's why everyone hates it. Can't move the jaw only pushing on teeth

a typical wisdom tooth removal doesnt cause visible bone decay

it does unfortunately
no, the bone that is lost from tooth extraction, is because there isn't being applied pressure to the jaw when chewing with that tooth. most wisdom teeth are removed because they are in the way ei. not being used properly, hence there is barely any additional jaw mass to lose

For a degree yeah but not by much, speaking as someone who had braces on.

that's true tho
its not, there isn't any noticeable bone lost from wisdom extractions if the wisdom teeth arent being used in the first place

Bands for what? Overbite/underbite/crossbite?
overbite/jet its not that bad at all so even if they were terrible like the difference would be minimal i want my bite to be fixed to fix my chin ratio a bit
