Has anybody moved away from home for college/university or just moved out to live alone and noticed an increase in motivation / discipline, or overall wellbeing?

I'm currently living with my mom but I don't have my own room so I sleep on the floor in the living room. I'm in my early 20's and I'm heading off to college in 3 weeks. It'll be the first time i've lived alone and I tell myself that once I have my own space that i'll make strides in my looksmaxxing journey through going to the gym, dieting etc, and my baseline motivation will increase.

Is this cope? Has anyone seen a substantial increase in their overall motivation since leaving home and living alone?

Yes it did boost my discipline and motivation a lot. I still feel like being an absolute slob when I visit my parents but I bounce right back when I go back home.

Thank you for this. It's so hard to explain why this is but I really do feel like once I move i'll be so much more disciplined.

I don't know what causes this exactly. Parents usually have an expectation for you to remain same and keep being cohesive with them. Which hinders adaptation. Adaptation to new circumstances can be the reason for motivation. But it's rarely acknowledged or understood by family.

Living on your own is way cooler than being stuck in this dynamic.

i'm 56 and lived with my parents all my life, there was a time i was outside and i think your mind kicks into survival mode and diverts more energy towards faculties that might help in that. thus higher motivation, drive, etc

Yeah I currently sleep on the floor in my mom's living room. When she goes to bed, I go downstairs and during the day I'll either be in her room on my laptop or I'll be outside. I'm hoping that once I move out (in 3 weeks) that I'll be more motivated to actually do things. I think not having my own space may be the catalyst for my low mood - i'm hoping that's the case anyways.
