How intelligible are The Slavic languages?

Is Ukrainian vs Russian like British English vs American English, how is Ukrainian culture and language even remotely different from Russian? 😂

And can speakers of a East slavic language understand a West slavic one after how much studying?
And can South slavic speakers understand West slavs after how long?

Expected. One is East Slavic branch, the other one South Slavic.

Could you learn Serbian easily through?
Like for example is the difference like German English difference or French - English difference or less?

As a fellow Slavcel who isn't from Russia, Ukraine or Belarus, every time I listen to their language I understand one in 6-7 words and it all kindof sounds like gibberish. Yet, I can assure you that the English translations are correct. Slavic languages are sophisticated and rich in many different terms, just like English. Many Slavic countries face "Englishization" of their languages, and there are many new terms that arrived here in the last 20 or so years, so the translations you see are usually 1:1 litteral because we translated and assimilated them completely

This one, you could have a remote understanding of what they are talking about but it's different
Serbian - Russian is like German - English difference. Interesting.

I suppose Catholic Slavs also don't learn Cyrillic alphabet in school nowadays so they would have more difficulty understanding orthodox Slavic, right?

Not really, english has quite alot of romance influence, serbian can have turkish influence, that can be argued in support of your example, but the turkish influence is quite minor actually

I speak macedonian and serbian almost fluently (i somewhat mix some words between them cause macedonian is my countries language and serbian is my ethnic language). I understand Bulgarian for the majority, but it depends on how quickly they speak, if its slow i understand well. Written Bulgarian is also very understandable. I understand 99% of bosnian and croatian (embarrassing to mention this, legit same language) but bosnian and croatian differ very slightly in some words, but i still know all of them, the best example between serbian and croatian is like english and american. I have a hard time understanding Slovene. The west slavic languages i understand like 10%, and for Russian its like 25% in some cases

Yeah, Croats don't use Cyrillic alphabet, while in Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro both are used. In the recent times Cyrillic alphabet is being put forwards more directly, as sort of a part of culture of these countries, but due to times spent under communists and due to position of those countries as a middleground between East and West, its unlikely any will prevail. Although I believe in Serbia Cyrillic alphabet is the one officially recognised as a state alphabet, in practice its being replaced with Latin one because of the internet usage

Depends what do you mean.

Russians can't understand vast part of ukrainian or belorussian, ukrainians and belorussians can understand 85-90% of each other languages.

When i speak fluent ukrainian to russian they weren't able to understand tbh, similarity between belorussian and polish, or ukr and polish is at the same leves as with russian, main difference is more in the alphabet.

Also they are struggling to read ukrainian texts.

Are Turks in Turkey actually just Arabs with a Turkic language??

Supposedly they are related to Uzbeks, Kazakhs etc but they don't look like them jfl @mrriceguy @TsarTsar444

Also, how important is religion in the Balkans, I've seen made up ethnicities like " Muslims" jfl, do the people strictly breed with their own religious groups there?

I’m Bulgarian and can get around in just about every Eastern European country, Russia included, due to the similarity of the languages. But no, they’re not nearly as closely related as Australian/British/American English are.

You need to remember the reason we bosniaks called ourselves muslims until just 30 years ago as an "ethnicity" is because we muslim slavs never had a nationalist secular awakening that happened in the late 18th century forward, Islam is just much more hardcoded then Christianity is, in Islam there is very little place for any pagan influences in the religion, or ethnic ties to it, we muslims are almost identical in our customs (talking about before 20th century) then christians were, if you saw for example a black and white video from the early 20th century of Sarajevo, it looks like some town in Pakistan. Nationalism is very taboo in islam. So after balkan christians started identifying as serb/croat first and christian second, we muslims didn't do this, it was foreign to us, a palestinian or bengali muslim is basically the same race/ethnicity with us muslim slavs in our identity then a christian slav. So when we got forced in the Austro-Hungarian census to choose a ethnicity, we simply said muslim to them which sounds like a "fuck you!" but in actuality it was genuine statment, why would we associate with our pesky kaffir bosnian ancestors? So this "Muslim" ethnic name stuck also in Yugoslavia, and even during communism we still regarded Islam as most important. This is also reflected in our culture, we have almost nothing slavic about us in traditions, we were more similar to iranians or algerians then our next door serb neighbors in customs. Christianity spread very successfully with merging with the local slavic faiths and other Euro pagan religions (example of this, slavic christians have these personal holidays called "slava" meaning "glory" where they celebrate their Saint according to the name given to them at birth thats the same with the saint. This is an old slavic religious custom where slavs named by slavic Gods would do it, christians just replaced slavic Gods with christian saints). But we muslims have non of that, there is barely a difference in our customs to that of majority other city dweller muslims in our world. After independence we had to catch up with European nationalism and quickly stated ourselves Bosniaks like our pre islamic ancestors, we changed our traditional Sharia and moon green flags with an European looking Bosnian Kingdom one. Bosnian women stopped wearing traditional islamic clothes (dont get this confused with hijab/niqab, im talking about traditional islamic bosnian clothing like this)

(So they started dressing like german women, germanic/nordic fashion was the norm).

But even after all this, many of us bosniaks still consider ourselves secretly muslim first as identity, my family is somewhat like this, especially since my mothers family comes from a wealthy ottoman pasha ancestry, and its realistically the most accurate term for bosnians, but the embarrassment of being associated with brown people make lots of Bosnians laro as much Euro as they could. Even revisionist cageful history is thought to bosniaks today how the Ottoman Turks were conquers, but this can't be farther from the truth, its even shockingly ironic, if you asked me to put the most elite privileged ethnic group in the Ottoman Empire, then everyone who doesn't know the history would say turks obviously, but it was actually Bosnians and Albanians, we were the merchants, army officers and governers of the heartland of the empire. Basically all muslim Bosnians today descend from well of families back then, our serfs were serbs mostly. Turks in anatolia were on the other hand serfs of the richer turkish families, they were the bulk of the cannon fodder ottoman army, and the farmers of the Empire. The ottoman empire has way more architecture in Bosnia per capita then in Anatolia during those 500 years. But we have guilt today, cause we muslims lost, so now we have to cope with changinf history like being actually also poor opressed balkan slavs by those turks boohoo kek.

When it comes to me personally and my family, we still use our real organic ottoman flag that all Bosnians died for in my house, and it will stay like that
