So I initially planned to take 0.5 mg of dutasteride twice a week, and 2.5mg of minoxidil daily.

However, I’ve seen that oral minoxidil causes facial bloating. Is this true, and if so what is the extent of this bloat, and how can it be mitigated?

Also, what alternatives are there to minoxidil? If I decide not to take it.

From my knowledge, dut just stops dht and the hair from falling out, but minoxidil is what causes that regrowth? Or can I experience regrowth on purely dutasteride? (Btw my mpb isn’t too bad, only slight, very early stages).

Thanks in advance

Note: I applied topical minoxidil on my hairline about a year + ago, and it caused my baby hairs to fall out and contribute towards my hair loss. Any info?

Oral minox causes bloat but its rare and goes off pretty quickly. I only experienced it for max 3 days, it was basically unnoticeable to a 3rd person.

Yes, you can experience regrowth from dut alone, and given your mpb is in very early stages, dut should be enough for maintaining it and possibly seeing some regrowth

About your falling out from topical min, its the mechanism how min works. Weaker hair shed for better ones to regrow. Dreader the shed, better the results.

Yes it causes bloating, but its not severe, and be easily fixed with diet or in worse cases diuretics

I'll depend on where you're trying to experience growth, for lashes and eyebrows you can look into latisse

So it’s possible to regain this initial shed? (The shed I lost from topical minox)

Also, I’m gonna take 0.5mg of dut twice a week and start off with 1.25mg of minox, and then up it.

Growth along my hairline mainly, my temples are fine and full.

Yeah I’ve thought about latisse, I know it causes hollowing but I can stop that by using Vaseline, but I’m gonna see how oral minox grows my lashes and brows first. To be fair my lashes and eyebrows are quite thick and long anyways, but any gains is obviously a plus.

If I do experience this bloating, what would you recommend?

The shed hair were close to their end of lifecycle anyways, so if you stopped topical min between the shed those hair just sped their cycle to the end.

1.25mg oral min alone works better than topical min. It's completely possible to recover as long as you take the drug.

Do you recommend taking dut for a little bit first, and then starting minox, just so it can save more hairs before minox causes the speeding up of the cycle?

Or just stick to my plan of minox daily and dut twice a week

dut sheds too. Any working hairloss drug sheds first before showing results.

Stick to your plan and maybe up the dosage later.

No worries, I’m literally about to take it.

Wish my hair follicles luck!

“Cutie boy” 😹 jfl

So basically eat less sodium? Okay that’s fine, I also take potassium supplements daily too. Anything else?

speaking from experience, when i was on 2.5 mg of oral minoxidil, i experienced zero bloating while cutting and eating around 1000kcals daily, but once i returned to maintenance, i bloated like a fucking balloon. i was also on a moderate dose of test at the time, yet im now on an even higher dose and experiencing no bloating. overall minoxidil related bloating seems to be highly individualistic so you wont know for certain unless you try it for yourself. similar anecdotes can be found across r/tressless

to answer your other question, dutasteride can cause significant regrowth by nuking dht, which contributes to follicle miniaturization and a shortened anagen (growth) phase. without that androgenic constraint, hair growth in itself can go beyond its baseline potential. minoxidil may therefore be unnecessary in most users (imo) and id personally consider 2.5 mg of dutasteride more than sufficient for aggressive dht suppression

if this answered your question, id appreciate it if you could mark me as solution :Comfy:

the bloat isn't rare , pretty much everyone will get it to some degree and doesn't go away , its induced downstream from the same mechanism that causes the improved hair growth
