I understand leaving your job...

But going to live in Bhutan with the monks for 6 months is cope. Why do so many people do this?

total mental detox, it’s one of the best things to do and after you do it you never want to go back, you should try it out

To fill the void but it will never be filled

Backpack around the world only applies to white people
As an ethnic you would be called an unemployed bum

Most people are bored, burnt out, or feel alienated from a society that values nothing but money or success. So naturally, when you burn out from consumerism and a repetitive job where you’re just making the pockets of someone above you richer, you feel a need for some kind of enlightenment or cleansing.

dunno how many people do it for spiritual reasons, like living like monks but traveling the world after quitting a job is pretty common.

Exactly....

Coming from money / strong credentials / career optionality: often reads upper-middle-class bohemian.

Lower class, weak progression and a spiritual reinvention narrative "I rejected the system!" is just status retreat.

if youre a non-chad and you work a 9-5 then you are fucking retarded in the head

why would an average normal guy break his back slaving away 10 hours a day for absolutely nothing

only chads should have a job, because theyre the only ones who can participate in society its in current state, and the government should pay neetbucks to ugly men as reparations for how feminist society has become

But do you think it's overkill. Like is it cope? No one gives a fuck about the person who claims enlightenment and re-tells their story of "hardship" after quitting KPMG to go live with the Monks in Bhutan and travel SEA for 6-12 months.

Sure at face value it's fine. But when the status loss is dressed up as total personal command and enlightenment achieved etc... rather than just a personal choice or trade-off; they look eccentric when they eventually have to return to the UK
