Basically the reddit board of directors decided to make a change where they wouldn't allow 3rd party apps an interface to "plug into" the website anymore, so to speak. Forcing people to use the official app. A bunch of subreddits shut down in protest, I guess reddit bit back and wiped some of them for insubordination because they wouldn't reopen (???). Something like that.
