I had a bat in my room a month ago, it woke me up by flying above my room in circles. I thought it could have bitten me so I searched for bite marks and found none. I killed it first ofc with a board and threw it out with a rag.

Still I was scared what if I missed a small bite so I googled rabies in bats in Serbia and basicaly our bats do not have rabies (they tested 400 bats some years ango and found no trace of rabies). Also not one death ever in Serbia of bat transmited rabies ever, and no human deaths in my region since 1964. Also no rabies found anywhere in the last seven years, not even in wildlife. But still, what a scary virus, what a horrific way to die man.

Fuck no. I had one and while painful it is easy to treat and not fatal. Do you even know what rabies do?

Scary part is most ppl with rabies dont survive so it has a super super low survival rate

They would not even give it for my case unless I lied I found bite marks and faked them with a needle. No one ever died from bat transmited rabies in serbia and researchers could not even find traces of the virus in any bat they ever tested.

How far away was it? Did you alert anyone? Here that would be a very serious matter and hunters would be dispatched to kill it.

and that is not even the worst part, you know you are dead and the fear and aggitation are only ramping up untill you lose your mind and become, well, a rabid beast

Damn they really take it seriously where you're at, I was standing on the side of the road and it was maybe 15-20ft away, all it's hairs were sticking up and it looked like it was on meth so we just got back in the car and dipped

They sure do. I know an old man from Kosovo that remembers a rabies lockdown they had in 1980 or so. The entire vilage was forced by the govt in lockdown and hunters were exterminating foxes for weeks while they were also droppinh some oral vaccines. The power of communism I guess.

Sleeping with an open window in the summer. I get at least one a year in the house. One even lived for months in the upper floor that is unfinished (unfinished second floor is a balkan classic). But this is a first time it woke up up by flying above my fucking head.

I asked my friend that is a doctor now in Germany and he said they would just laugh at me if I do not have bite marks. Also no real test, if you got bit you get the shot, if you show symptoms you die.

I see. In the UK we don't see bats at all, I've never actually seen one irl. I'd have no idea what to do if one came into my room, they seem scary asf.

I live in a swamp so a lot of mosquitoes and they eat them. They are as common as sparrows here, you see them flying all over the place at night. My cats even hunt them when they get in the house.
