The Maxilla and Cheekbones are two of the most revered features in PSL, they’re also part of the facial differences which allow us to classify the races. (Note that all of this is generalisation, there are exceptions.)
Firstly, you have the Cheekbones:
African and European cheekbones are quite similar, with the Europeans having slightly sharper cheekbones, Asians tend to have rounder, flatter cheekbones then the other two; they tend to extend outwards while Europeans and Africans extend upwards. This gives Asians their distinct look of “high” cheekbones, which just means wide.
Compare this to a European:
Eriksen’s cheekbones pop out more because they have a sharper shape compared to the Asians and extend further upwards/forwards.
Additionally, Asian cheekbones are much larger than their counterparts.
Asians don’t actually have high cheekbones, they're just notably prominent which most people refer to as “high”. The vertical length of the cheekbone gives the zygos their height; all cheekbones start at the same place relative to the other features, it’s where they end which decides whether they’ll be high set or low set.
Furthermore, another notable difference between the races is the projection of the maxilla, it’s well known that Asians possess a flatter profile, it’s why anime characters often tend to look white (forward growth)
It’s largely a myth that Africans have more forward grown faces, the projection of the maxilla is quite similar to that of Europeans. The main difference is that Africans tend to have bimaxillary protrusion.
Asians tend to have much flatter and less projected maxillas:
From this paper: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10618591/
“Very flat faces in the transverse plane are the most common condition in eastern Asians.”
And from this:
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
“both the modern and the Yean-ri have morphological cranial traits similar to Asian continental Mongoloid in terms of the large upper facial height, the flatness in the frontal and zygomaxillary regions,”.
To surmise, Asians tend to have “rounded frontal bones” and “very flat faces in the transverse plane”; while Africans and Europeans have more projection in their zygomaxillary regions.

Morphological traits of crania in modern Kyongsangnam-do Koreans - PubMed
The crania of modern Kyongsangnam-do or Southeastern Koreans were examined metrically and nonmetrically. In comparison with those of several modern samples from the northeastern Asia, the modern Kyongsangnam-do crania are characterized by their brachycranic and high cranial vaults as well as...
