Raised acne scars thread

I’m sure I’m not the only one dealing with this problem, but here we are so..
WHAT ARE RAISED ACNE SCARS AND HOW TO GET RID OF THEM?

«Raised acne scars are bumpy, elevated marks on the skin that form when the body produces too much collagen during the healing process after acne. This overproduction creates thickened, raised tissue that disrupts the skin’s smooth texture, making these scars stand out compared to atrophic (pitted) scars. They typically occur after severe or inflammatory acne, like cysts or nodules, and can vary in size, texture, and severity.» The three main types are:

Hypertrophic Scars
Raised, pretty big bumps (at first could be reddish color, but after some time should be same as your skin tone). Those type of scars stay within the acne spot. As I know, they are most common on people with Asian genes and they could appear somewhere near the nose area.

Keloid Scars
Thick, stubborn lumps that grow beyond the acne spot. Itchy, painful, and more common in darker skin (Fitzpatrick III-VI). They can appear at your jaw, back, hand or even ear. They don’t emerge only cause of acne, but I think it will be noteworthy.

Papular Scars
Small, soft, raised bumps, often on the nose or chin. Less intense than keloids but still annoying. Also are more common in people with Asian genes.

HOW TO TREAT RAISED SCARS (I will start with a “basic” treatments.)

• Silicone Gel/Sheets
1754065550427

Why: Hydrates and softens scars, cuts collagen overproduction. Works for all raised scars (there could be from 60-80% improvement for keloids) .
Apply silicone gel (for example: ScarAway, NewGel+) 2x daily or use sheets overnight for 8-12 weeks.

• Onion Extract (Mederma)
1754065591259

Why: Anti-inflammatory, softens hypertrophic/papular scars. Mixed results for keloids.
Rub on 2x daily for 8 weeks. Best for fresh scars. Would be better to pair with silicone for better gains.

NEXT-LEVEL TREATMENTS
For getting best results I advice going to the derm.

Steroid Injections
Why: Shrinks hypertrophic/keloid scars (50-80% success). Less studied for papular but can help. I don’t advice buying and injecting by yourself cause most of the time injections aren’t legit, but it’s worth considering. (Indiamart)
Triamcinolone shots every 4-6 weeks, 3-6 sessions. They are best for keloids. Find a derm who knows their stuff to avoid skin thinning.

• Cryotherapy

Why: Freezes keloids/hypertrophic scars to reduce size. May work for firm papular scars.
Liquid nitrogen for a few seconds, 1-3 sessions. Also could be risky for darker skin (pigment loss). Could be paired with corticosteroids for best results .

• Laser Therapy

Why: CO2 laser could flatten hypertrophic/papular scars. Fractional lasers for keloids. 3-5 sessions, could be $200-$500 each, should be done 4-6 weeks apart.
There is a lot of different laser treatments but CO2 is gold for raised scars. It also makes skin texture better. In my opinion this is the best thing for papular/hypertrophic scars you can do, even tough the most priciest in long term. :feelshah:

• Surgery (Keloids Only)
Why: Cuts out keloids, but there is 50% chance they grow back. Not for hypertrophic/papular.
Excision + corticosteroids to prevent regrowth. It should be a last resort. Don’t try without a pro plan.

LIFESTYLE HACKS

STOP PICKING AT YOUR FUCKING PIMPLES.

Popping could result scars. Use tretinoin or benzoyl peroxide to prevent deep acne. Don’t do same mistakes as I did. I don’t advise anything, but accutane is the best thing you can do if you have acne prone skin, but this isn’t an acne guide so make your own research and choose what is best for you.

Hope this thread was helpful, yall free to ask any questions if needed
