Yes the moors were primary berbers ethnically being close to the people of Morocco, Algeria, Libya etc. What confuses many is that Moorish usually referred to anyone of Muslim stock for example the black mercenaries and slaves used in the first invasion of Spain were referred to as moors despite having little in common culturally with the Berbers besides both being Muslims.
