Tbh, I have a theory. You only get them if you have non forward grown maxila.

I go outside and look at older people and they seem to be on the recessed types much more.

Yeah I mean, where are those fat pads gonna go if your maxila is backwards grown? It's gonna fall down fast, literally nothing holding them up. Forward grown maxila holds that shit up.
