Get a middle part flow going, you're almost there, but it looks like a bowl cut, the way you style it. I used to have pin straight hair also, I got a perm, and it made life much easier.

But I would start off using hair product(clay, mousse, etc.) and focus on getting the hair flowing back, not down. Your hair looked good when you pulled it back in that side profile; that should be your goal. I am unpermed right now, but I've learned over the year how to control my hair to make it look permed naturally. Also, not everyone looks good with a perm, but I think it worked well with my phenotype.

There are different perm rod sizes, I would avoid going too curly; peach and purple rods would be a safer bet(what I did). But as I said before, learn to max your hair naturally, don't over shampoo, keep hair moisturized, and unlock natural hair texture. I conditioner cleanse every day and use leave-in conditioner, and I can get waves and curls with no perm now. I used to shampoo everyday with a crappy shampoo and I would wonder why my hair sucked. More maintenance going natural, but if you can't style your hair now, you won't be able to with a perm IMO.
