Parenting is just something they do, another part of life, instead of obsessing about and over complicating while constantly worrying about what others might think of the job they're doing.

The only thing that matters is whether I'm good in the classroom and respect the students. It doesn't matter if I'm a drug slut, cat killer, or a mean and unreasonable son of a bitch outside of the classroom because it only takes a week to figure out if it will have any bearing on my job.

Its actually very lax. If you can deal with zero internet as you know it then you're pretty much free as a bird compared to im USA.

Where else can you fuck your co workers with no repercussions no matter what, fist fight with no repercussions but a small fine, beat your wife in the middle if the street without anyone batting an eye, light up a cigarette inside McDonald's after finishing your meal, knock up 15+ different women and have zero responsibilities regardless of what she wants to do (actually happened with an American living in Beijing), drink alcohol in cabs and anywhere else in public, piss in front of anyone in broad daylight, show up to work piss drunk and not be in any sort of legal trouble knowing that nobody will even say anything until you've done ut every day for more than one week in a row? Hell, during my time there it was well know that many foreign teachers whould fuck their middle school students. The wouldn't even get fired for it let alone go to jail. Age of consent was 14 I believe when I was last there.

After the first three months I could speak conversational mandarin thanks to the city I found myself. Nobody spoke English and I was in a far flung district. That's going from zero when I first got there.

Got the job with a an email to a recruiter. Stayed 10 years with short bouts living in Cambodia and Vietnam as well.

All of that and more was absolutely allowed in every city regardless of tier while I was there, and probably still is. The only thing that varied was smoking in Western style fast food establishments, and that had more to do with geography than anything else. You're all good in the southern half of the country but in the north someone might politely ask you to put it out. You could still smoke in most hospital waiting rooms or even doctors offices though. And you could certainly smoke in the boys bathroom at any elementary school you happened to find yourself working at.

You seem to not know much about China beyond the soft power. Even in the centers of Shanghai, Chongqing, or Shenzhen you'll run into some 3rd world sights before walking 15 minutes in any direction. Maimed beggers or people eating out of trash.
