also this image doesn’t even mention bizygo width. It doesn’t matter if you have ‘perfect’ 65mm ipd, if your breadth is too large, your eyes will appear close-set anyway.

You missed the part where EVERYTHING is secondary to orbital measurements. If the skull is average sized then they are absolute, not relative. Everything else (nose width, mouth width, byzygomatic and jaw width) are relative to the orbital measurements not the other way around.

Just like the order of operations in math PEMDAS there is an order of operations to aesthetics
1. Skull Size
2. Orbital Separation
3. Facial Height Metrics
4. Facial Width Metrics.
5. Nose and Lips

The order of 3 and 4 might be debatable or make no difference.

If you want some proof consider rhinoplasty can of laugh techniques. You can’t just narrow the alar base to match the narrow ICD - that hasn’t corrected or balanced anything, just made the face even worse.

Which means that what is actually primary is your skull size.

But there’s a difference between something being primary due to convention, or due to an actual hierarchical reason. Maybe you could argue that we perceive the ipd as an absolute measure even before computing the esr. This would actually mean that an absolute ideal range for it would make sense, even for people with non average sized skulls.

But consider this:

Which face is more attractive?

One has ideal ratios, but every single absolute measure of length or width is exactly 1 sd below the average.

Or the same exact same face (same features), but now some ratios are off, but most absolute measures are exactly average size.

I’d reckon the first one.
