To those trying to self diagnose and adapt to neurodivergent traits or diagnoses as a persona, trend, or aesthetic: It is vital to recognize these as literal neurological incapabilities. While exploring your identity and seeking community online is a natural human desire, framing temporary or relatable human behaviors as clinical conditions dilutes the very real, lifelong challenges that neurodivergent individuals face daily. Real neurodivergence often comes with systemic barriers, misdiagnosis, sensory overload, and a profound struggle to navigate a world built for neurotypical brains. Empathy and solidarity are always welcome, but please respect the lived experiences of the community by listening and supporting rather than simulating a reality that others cannot step out of when the trend fades.
