The early church went through a variety of issues which seem to make it suited for this.
Christianity being a pretty radical religion and also initially being persecuted had to respond to objections to its core tenents.
How can God become man?
How can God die?
How does the trinity work?
The early christians wrote a series of letters called apologies meant to respond to objections to christianity do to the strange nature of the religion compared to what came before it.
This unintentionally forced the early church fathers to learn to logically construct arguments, deal with the metaphysics of how it the religion works, and also engage in personal philosophy to explain their journey to Christianity.
I'm not christian but I find the writings of early christians to be good as introductions to basic logic, metaphysics, ethical frameworks, personal philosophy etc.
Some starting recommendations:
1. On the trinity
for metaphysics and logic
and also
2. St.Augustines confessions
for personal philsophy
