Japan tried to forcefully conquer all of East Asia and Southeast Asia. They were China wannabes and were able to conquer so much of Asia and beat Europe in wars because they industrialized and modernized (albeit to a lesser extent) like European and North American countries did while no other country did. Today though, they're at the complete mercy of China.
