Yes, you're right. We're limited by our genetic potential, and environment, to an extent. Guess my point was that I genuinely didn't think I was appealing, although then again I never considered myself outright ugly either. So I feel like for a lot of men it's a case of mentalinceldom, which also distorts their perception of their physical attractiveness and potential. I'm not saying this is the case for you because I don't know your exact situation. Further, I didn't mean to rub it in with my post if you truly are unattractive beyond redemption.

I guess if a man is just too ugly the best cope would be to find something you're really passionate about and good at, if possible, and get obsessed with it until you become the cream of the crop in your field. Humans are not merely physical entities, but also creative, intellectual and spiritual ones.
