I’ve been thinking about this and wanted some opinions from people who’ve actually paid attention to jaw structure IRL.
Which do you think looks worse overall: a slightly recessed mandible but a decent/forward chin, or a good mandible projection with a slightly weak or recessed chin?
I get that the mandible affects jaw width, ramus length, gonial angle, etc., while the chin mostly affects profile, but in real life (not just side profile pics), which one tends to hurt someone’s look more? Front view and ¾ especially.
Can a strong chin really make up for a weaker mandible, or does mandible development always matter more for looking masculine? And how much do things like facial hair, body fat, soft tissue, or posture change how noticeable this even is?
If you had to pick one flaw to have, which would you rather deal with and why

Chin and mandibular recession are the same thing, no?
A strong chin wont make up for a recessed mandible though, nor will a forward mandible for a short chin. Both are horrific, but id say the latter is worse.

The chin is part of the mandible

But you get what i mean
Yeah a little bit it really depends but i guess mandible matters more considering surgeons often advance the mandible more. I had surgery 4 weeks ago and if there was the choice of just advancing the mandible or the chin I would choose the mandible chin is also very important though

For sure recessed mandible good chin. A good chin saves a recessed mandible

A recessed chin is the number 1 worst flaw to have as it is very identifiable by normies and they will label you as ugly if you have it

Chin is apart of the mandibular. but yeah strong chin can make up for a bad ramus.
