over last 2.5 years, mandible has slowly been recessing. Tough to fell from pictures only but maxilla has stayed fairly similar. Maybe slightly recessed since 2.5 years ago but nowhere near level that mandible has recessed - and could potentially still be going backwards. What could be the reason for this?

As far as I’m aware I’m not mouth breathing - tongue posture/ mewing is not good but as far as I was aware, if this was the cause then mandible and maxilla would recess together? Maxilla is slave to Mandible right? What is causing my mandible to go backwards?

have you gotten fatter? did you get any tooth extractions?

No extractions. As a kid I had functional appliances with brought my mandible forwards - which worked brilliantly. My theory is that now this is simply reversing and going back to position I had as a kid.

I’m about to start preoperative ortho for jaw surgery to fix recessed mandible - but I am worried that a similar thing will happen again and it will simply Revert back to what it is now and will be a waste of it all.

Also not fatter.
