Id say Sergei Eisenstein's "Battleship Potemking" ("Броненосец Потёмкин" in russian) released in the 1920s
or... D.W. Griffith's "The birth of a nation" released in 1915. A real innovative movie in the art of jump cuts and facial close-ups
ooor... if your feeling feisty, Flubber. Released in 1997 directed by Les Mayfields. And starring the late Robin Williams.
