Listening to obscure bands just to say you have a sophisticated taste compared to the majority is so adolescent-like. "Look at me! I know a good underground band that no one else does. I am so enlightened!"

I only stick to entry level bands in soft rock because I'm more into hard rock. Still, I don't find myself esoteric or special for knowing underground hard rock bands, so I don't give a fuck about underground bands in soft rock.
