When White kids reach a certain age, White parents typically tell their kids there's a word called "the n word"

That's the most counterproductive method possible to teach your kids about racial slurs.

Kids find swearing funny. Any time an adult tells a kid a certain word is "the (whatever letter) word," the kid ends up viewing the word as a swear word (and then the kid finds it hysterical to use the swear word as much as possible)

In conclusion, by telling your kids there's an "n word," all you're doing is ensuring your kids will use "the n word" as much as possible.

When I was in elementary school, I played a game with the neighbor kid: We'd yell swear words as we jumped into his pool.

We yelled ass, bastard, bitch, piss, fuck, as well as nigger.

There was no racist intent behind our usage of the word nigger (we barely even understood race at that age). We seriously viewed nigger as just another swear word, no different than any of the other swears we yelled when we jumped into his pool.

One time I called one of the few black girls at my school a nigger.

She ratted me out to the school administration.

How stupid of her. First of all, it didn't even happen on school grounds.

Second of all, there was no racist intent. I was simply an edgy kid who found swearing funny (and I had been led to believe nigger is a swear word, thanks to my parents referring to nigger as "the n word")
