Regret going to a concert without earplugs years ago

Almost 3 years ago I went to an edm show which lasted about 6 hours. I was right at the front by the speaker, and stupidly I didn't bring earplugs as it was my first time

It's pretty much guaranteed I caused some hearing loss, even though I don't really notice it. I like producing and mixing music, so being able to hear all frequencies well is essential

Tbh, concerts are way too loud. I don't really like them anyway. But unless you wear earplugs you're likely going to damage your hearing

Luckily I hate clubbing so don't go to nightclubs
And the other times I've been to a show/festival I've worn earplugs
I just regret that one time

Obviously your hearing will be temporarily worse a few days after, but it also causes slight hearing loss permanently. It's not something I can pinpoint, because I can't remember what it was like before, but it would've caused some damage

It was so retarded, but it's also retarded that you have to wear earplugs to safely listen, and they don't make this clear
I don't notice any hearing problems but I know damage occurred, which is annoying

You know....that ringing you're hearing after loud sound exposure is your ear cells dying, and the last time you will ever hear that sound frequency again...If you didn't notice hearing problems, it's probably because only a small part of your hearing spectrum was damaged, like the part responsible for very high or very low sounds, that are rarely heard in real life.

It's just some frequencies are quieter. For me it's 8-12khz

relatable cuz I have tinnitus myself and suffer from this contineous pain.

the way I am trying to deal with it is accepting my hearing-loss and the tinnitus I hear constantly. I can't change/affect it anyways, this pain/damage is already there, at best I can prevent it from getting worse.

Meanwhile I have custom-made 15dB earplugs for raves although I am thinking of going down to 10db cuz otherwise I dont use them

but do know that you will get accustomed to your hearing loss and you wont suffer as much as you do now, in the future.

hearing protection is extremely important though, its not too late, you still benefit, and this aspect is detached from the pain you have from you current tinnitus/hearing-loss. Which is brutal and something you need to talk about and process.

Yeah it sucks cos great hearing is important to me and I can't go back. Luckily it's not noticeably bad. And if I have tinnitus, it's only mild and usually when I have a cold, like now. It's more of a mental thing - I know I should have damage

But yeah, u can't live with regret since it's done now. I wear some of those music earplugs now whenever I go to a show. Just wish I had known beforehand, but oh well, I learned my lesson
