I've done it through out my life (usually at jobs or the gym). It's usually ignoring them after they approach.

Although I did straight up reject a girl by giving the "I'm too poor excuse" after she said I should take her out for dinner.
Pretty brutal in hindsight since we could've always gone to a cheap place.
