you're saying that someone is profiting from selling the promise of heaven so I guess your critiquing what the catholic church was doing between 1095 and 1567, or you're critiquing megachurches. Noone likes either of those things so what point are you even making?

I can give you my point of view from the true church of Jesus Christ, the Orthodox church:
The Church is not a moral police station. It is a spiritual hospital. The point isn't to follow some rich pastor to go to heaven after you die.
The point is to nurture your soul and reach real human fulfillment. You can reach heaven during your life using the teachings of the church. Heaven and hell aren't locations and they aren't rewards/punishments, they are ways in which you experience the love of God that will be around you always no matter what you do, where you are or how you act. It's not exactly plausible to sell that which you are always experiencing to you for money.
You can have all the money in the world and indulge in whatever kind of perversions and sin that floods you with dopamine when you're doing it, but that will always catch up to you in pain, stress and fear. A cult-running billionaire will have moments of fear and pain, he will never be truly fulfilled. It would be hard to go up to the monastery on mount Athos and find a monk that is disappointed with his day.

religion gives structure and purpose to billions of peoples lives. if religion helps people seek comfort in times of hardship im not against that
