you help them be higher status? = friends
you give them fun stuff to do? = friends
you get them girls? = friends
you make money together? = friends

however, your family, especially immediate relatives are the only ones who will truly give a shit about you. You will maybe have a handful of friends throughout your life that give half a shit about you, but at least some of your family will care about you deeply. You don’t want to wait till your father or mother is 65 and then only build your relationship together; your mother might be here today but gone tomorrow, 2 years, 5 years or next week you never know.
