Germans couldn't cope that an empire could last 1500 years straight, and that they could only manage to conquer the shit western provinces and not the east, so they invented a new term "Byzantine Empire" that is still used till this day because of the Eternal Anglo :feelskek::feelskek::feelskek:.

Inb4 "umm they were greeks tho, not Roman :feelswah:" :feelskek::feelskek: the most common and insane cope, thats only said by low iq cels who don't know Roman History.

Reminder that the Roman Empire never actually even split like its commonly believed by normies, thats a layman term, in reality the "split" was just an administrative split, similar to how federations function today while being the same country. Basically it was one country with 2 capitals and Emperors, that lasted uninterrupted from 27bc to 1204 ad.

The Greek language was always the most common language in the Roman Empire, even during Augustus, literally half of his Empire spoke Greek and not Latin, while the other half spoke a mix of latin, other italic languages, galic, punic, berber, etc.

Wealthy Romans also spoke more greek then latin between eachother, and the Roman culture was like 50% greek from the start.

I think this comes from the Media and the Anglos again, steryotyping the Romans always with those same Square shieds and shit, to make normies doubt Eastern Rome and how roman they were.

I think this is right because what I've heard is that nobody really spoke Latin, it was a formal language for law and trade in the same way that the average person right now cannot read a contract and understand what's going on with it.

French/Spanish/Italian do not decent from Latin they descend from something called "Vulgar Latin" which has little to no documentation. On top of that the Greek golden age directly preceded the Roman golden age so it would make sense that the lingua franca would still be Greek, they were using it as far as India & Western China for international trade. Plus all educated people knew Greek in the same way that non-native Anglos that are middle/upper class around the world learn English.

Everyone spoke Latin bro. Greek was a language they didn't even spoke, only in writings and school for study purposes (like reading some scrolls and stuff) they even code to each other in Greek to confuse people because most people (mid class) couldn't understand greek, let alone the poor. Augustus tried to learn Greek but never was truly fluent, he tried tho.

Yup, this is correct, in the east Greek was always the de facto language cause the Romans didn't need to impose latin in the East because it was already unified by a single language already, like Greek. Thats why Latin spread in the west instead to unite the Iberians, Gauls, Berbers into a single administrative group

They didn't get humiliated because that battle was more of a treachery and backstab by Arminius, Rome never lost a real field battle againts the Germanic Tribes

if north africa didnt get invaded by arabs and they kept on speaking romance they would probably be making threads about how they are "white" on here like the italians

I'm not even talking about Arminius, I'm talking about the first documented battles around 200 b.c

200bc? They didn't fight Germans that early, the first real fighting was during the Cimbri war, when the Germans did actually humiliate the Romans and destroy them in few battles, but after all of this Rome still held on and defeated the Cimbri and genocided them after Marius reformed the Army

Roman legacy was the big thing, so there're bunch of people to claim themselves as the righteous successors. Even Russians with their concept "Moscow is the third Rome".

"Afterwards, Germanicus ordered Caius Silius to march against the Chatti with a mixed force of 3,000 cavalry and 33,000 infantry and lay waste of their territory, while he himself, with a larger army, invaded the Marsi for the third time and devastated their land, defeating any foe he encountered."
