Training legs, especially squats, naturally releases growth hormone and testosterone which makes the entire body grow. The body also generally likes to grow proportionally, so you could, except for genetically rare people, probably be bottlenecking your upper body growth by neglecting legwork. As an observed-reality example of this, I know plenty of people who refuse to train legs, and their upper body's are often as unimpressive as their lower bodies.
