Had my custom wraparound jaw implant removed yesterday, as it gave me nowhere near the looks I was looking for, or what I got when a mockup was made of how it would look before I got it inserted.
As you can see, the implant was manually trimmed at the angles, more significant on the right side and there is literally no way this had any chance of giving any kind of angularity. Essentially it just made my face a bigger/fatter version than before having it.

Luckily dimensions were small, rougly 3mm on each side and 3mm downwards with no forward projection, so there should be no tissue sagging. Removal surgery was super mild as well and nothing like having it inserted.

I also had the implant in for roughly 9 and a half month, already there was *some* bone overgrowth that had to be drilled off the implant, also at the right gonial angle, there was a bone bump that had grown right behind where the implant ended, surgeon said this should even out as the pressure from the implant is removed.

I attached some pictures, seeing as there are pretty few people who actually get procedures done I figured it might be of interest to someone.

who did the design of the implant and who was the surgeon

People always cry about bone resorption and now it turns out that implant pressure causes bone growth?

It depends where the pressure actually takes place, no way of knowing as I'm not gonna bother taking 3DCT scan, but could be due to slight malposition at the gonial angle, no clue tbh.

Is this silicone? Why was this material chosen? I assume it wasn't put on screws?

Yes sillicone, no specific reasons other than that's what the surgeon uses. In hindsight I'm glad that was the chosen material as it would be more complicated to get it out if it was peek or medpor.
It was fixated with 3 small screws, 1 at each gonial angle and 1 at the chin, it was small enough to be inserted in one piece.

How long was the swelling for, after implant insertion?
What are your plans regarding jaw now? Do you plan to get a differently designed one or use fillers?

Insertion swelling was like 2 months ish I would say.
No, I'm over jaw implants/fillers for sure.
My jaw wasn't too bad before, the issue was asymmetry due to having a bunch of dental procedures done when growing up, it cause some asymmetry I wanted to fix, but the asymmetry largely seem to stem from soft tissue anyways.
I'm just gonna let the tissue settle for 6 months-1 year and then decided if I want to do anything at all.

3mm only ?

Do you have the original design and your before/after ?

It was originally 5mm at the right, and 7mm on the left.
I raised concerns and this would def had been too much, and he said he could trim it down during surgery, this was done to roughly 3mm on each side.
I do but I rather keep it private.

Weird question but how much does that thing weigh?

Well done, good thread. You don't need artifical plastics in your face to fit madeup false beauty standards

Sounds like a huge waste of money. Custom wrap around implants are like 15k+ aren’t they? That sucks

it causes bone resorption underneath it and bone growth on top of it
