retainers and orthodontics

had sht teeth since birth, got two teeth removed a couple years ago which could of fucked up my forward growth but whatever. Got braces a year ago at 13 and my teeth are better now, coming off them very soon and they gave me a retainer for night, skeptical if I should actually use it or get a different orthodontical device.
