First use a facial cleanser, then apply tret, then moisturizer (wait at least 10-15 minutes or so before applying moisturizer though)

If you are using moisturizer, then apply it afterwards, some doc says to wait at least 30 mins. If you are using it before bed, i would use it several hours before, so it doesn't go into the pillow.
The important thing is to use it though, whatever routine fits your schedule.
