Retinol: OTC vs Prescription-Grade?

Hi, I was wondering if the OTC Retinol creams even do anything, or if it's better to cut the shit and just strongarm a prescription somehow. I have no doubt prescription-grade would be stronger and actually effective, but are the OTC ones good too or is it like how Test is illegal and all those OTC Test-boosters are bullshit sold to dumbfucks?
