They are used for:
Acne: Retinoids can help to reduce the production of sebum, which is the oily substance that can clog pores and lead to acne. They can also help to exfoliate the skin, which can help to remove dead skin cells and clear up acne breakouts.
Wrinkles: Retinoids can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which are two proteins that give skin its structure and elasticity. They can also help to improve the overall appearance of the skin by evening out skin tone and reducing the appearance of age spots.
Sun damage: Retinoids can help to repair sun-damaged skin by stimulating the production of new skin cells. They can also help to reduce the appearance of age spots and other signs of sun damage.
Melasma: Melasma is a type of skin condition that causes brown or grayish patches to appear on the skin. Retinoids can help to reduce the appearance of melasma by lightening the skin.
Other skin conditions: Retinoids may also be used to treat other skin conditions, such as psoriasis, rosacea, and actinic keratosis.

When you would use Retinol or Tretinoin
Retinol: If you are new to retinoids or have sensitive skin, start with retinol. You can gradually increase the concentration of retinol over time as your skin adjusts.
Tretinoin: If you are looking for faster results or have severe skin conditions, talk to your doctor about tretinoin. Tretinoin is more likely to cause side effects, so it is important to start with a low concentration and gradually increase it over time.
