I believe he was acting authentically tbh that's what he means by "giving in" he probably tried for some time to not kill people and realized it was too stressful to repress himself the problem is his authentic desires were extremely antisocial

Generally you want to avoid repressing your authentic desires but in this case doing that is a one way ticket to life in prison
