Yeah that's the thing which I figured out way too late, it's not enough to just be their friend, you need to be friends with their parents since they're the ones who actually got the money, make an effort to meet them, cause the greatest impression you can.

You can 3x the chance of their parents liking you if you investigate the parents beforehand and know what business they're in and act like you care about that, say you're interested in the area, in opportunities, whatever the hell even if you discovered the thing a day ago. Again, feed their egos, make them feel overly important.

Also, try to never ask for money, that just completely sells it. Ask them for experiences, whenever they say "Oh I went to X over the summer" act as happy as you can for them and then act sobby about also wanting to experience that some day.
